We have recently conducted several studies developing the concept we call Biodiversity Islands, a framing and planning tool, as part of the Program in Tropical Forestry and Agroforestry. A Biodiversity Island acts as an ecological refuge, where plants and animals can thrive without major degenerative interference from human activity. The economic benefits of adopting and recognizing Biodiversity Islands within the landscape include ecosystem services, biodiversity conservation, and natural capital resources (biodiversityislands.org). In collaboration with several colleagues and YSE students (BrettLevin, MEM ’18, Sara del Fierro, MF’19) we created the above-mentioned website, resulting in my upcoming book:

Recientemente, hemos realizado varios estudios sobre el desarrollo del concepto que llamamos Islas de la Biodiversidad, una herramienta de planificación y encuadre, como parte del Programa de silvicultura tropical y agrosilvicultura. Una isla de biodiversidad actúa como un refugio ecológico, donde las plantas y los animales pueden prosperar sin gran interferencia de la actividad humana. Los beneficios económicos de adoptar y reconocer islas de biodiversidad dentro del paisaje incluyen servicios ambientales, conservación de la biodiversidad y recursos de capital natural (biodiversidadislands.org). En colaboración con varios colegas y estudiantes de YSE (Brett Levin, MEM ’18, Sara del Fierro, MF ’19) creamos el sitio web mencionado anteriormente, resultando en mi próximo libro (citado arriba).
